Have a carb running lean ,,took it out on the water, put in gear to adjust (Turned screw right and left ,,,no change.Would this indicate a stopped up idle passge in that carb?

have not yet but will. Really odd, it only spits at start up after fishing for awhile (45 minutes) short stops cranks up and idles fine, cranks up and idles fine at first crank after setting for several days> relace fuel /vro pump, checked for air leak on fuel lines /replace pump ball /anti syphon valve/rebuilt fuel separator/replaced vaccum pump/spack plug wirs. Already had a new power pack replace about a year back. This is killing me! This boat runs like a scalded dog at wot and only does this after running and fishing fo more that 45 minute,,rest of the time idles fine?????????/

Those carbs are difficult to get a clean adjustment on. I've had the best luck setting them all to a predetermined value, 6 turns out or whatever. Then adjust them all at once a quarter to eighth turn at a time to get the best idle, acceleration, and avoiding the lukewarm start issues you describe. If that's an Eagle V6 (post 1991) they are sensitive to temperature. Make sure the impellar is good, and the thermostats aren't stuck. The idle has to be a little richer than the smoothest idle speed to avoid an acceleration bog.

thanks Dcramer,,, I have changed the water pump and have new thermostats. This luke warm condition does it give these symptoms?,due to a too lean idle adjustment? I have not cleaned the carbs yet

That's my experience, you can set it to idle like a sewing machine. Hit the throttle and the tach drops to zero. Richen it up a quarter turn or so, and you'll lose a bit on idle quality, but when you hit it you're on plane instantly!

The starting difficulty on mine was improved significantly with the stats etc, but really disappeared when I richened up a bit on the idle.
