"i have a 1976 johnson 40 hp that slipps. i have recently changed the prop to try and correct the problem, however no change. any ideas before i remove the lower unit? motor did sit for awile before i got it so maybe a rubber piece dry rotted? motor starts every time and rpm's will increase however motor still slipps!!!"

it never seems to grab it will surge every so often like it wants to go and will go ok at real slow speed but anything over 5mph it slips feels almost like a car transmisson slipping there are no banging noises and the new prop did nothing to fix the problem. the higher rpm's will give me a little more speed but gives you like a surging feeling

however i did fix my spelling of the word "slip" duh
