Sierra Lower Unit Parts?

Ok, so I checked out the MarineEngine.com parts and found Sierra parts I might be able to buy the few parts I need and fix this thing myself with the help of this forum and the book I would buy.

Im asking if Sierra parts would be good replacement parts for my destroyed forward gear, clutch dog and pinion gear?

All help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

In addition to the correct parts, there are all sorts of very expensive specialty tools which are usually required. Last time I needed a LU I got one from a local shopping guide for $250. I have also purchased from Ebay very reasonably. You may want to try Craigslist too.

Ok guys, thanks. I put it together a few times but I dunno how they get the pinion gear in there. I should get a manual..

Thanks Joe. Im going to get a book before I continue.

Am I suppose to come in from the top(driveshaft) with the pinion gear, thrust washers and bearing?

Ty!

Lower unit upside down. Driveshaft can only be inserted one way (upside down). Install the bearing, thrust washer, shims, etc after the driveshaft/pinion gear nut is torqued to factory specs.

Joe I dont think there is a nut on this pinion gear.

29, 21, 22, 23, 24 is all still in the lower unit. Do I need to take it all out to get 16, 32, 35, 33 in place?

No, you're correct...... You didn't list what engine you were talking about BUT I assumed by the member name you were speaking about a 140hp model. I should know better. Previous messages cancelled
