Should water be coming out here?

Hi Everyone

I've recently got my Mercury 70 blueband working thanks to this forum so cheers for the help.

i recently changed my impeller and fitting a new water pump kit. After putting it all back together which was a bit of a faff, I noticed water coming out between the joint where the lower unit bolts onto the shaft of the engine. I can't remember if this happened before and the impeller was pretty dead so may not have pumped as much water. There is definitely a nice steady stream of water coming from the engine outlet also.

Thanks Pete

Hi, yes there is a rubber washer over the drive shaft on top of the pump housing. When I took it apart there was also a piece of rubber tube wedged in the place where the water pipe meets the pump. I found it really hard to put back so may not be on as well as it should be but it didn't seem to be a perfect fit so I thought it was more for holding the pipe in place. There is plenty of water coming out of the outflow pipe. I've been out twice since replacing and always glance back to check on the water flow and it seems very good. Thanks

As long as your getting water through the engine it shouldn't be a issue. Could be one of the many gaskets that are in the impeller housing letting water seal out.

Water leaks out all over the place when the LU is not submerged--no gaskets there (or needed). Don't worry about it unless the left part of the block (exhaust plate) gets so hot you can't keep your hand on it.

Thanks for your help. I was hoping that was the case. It appears to flow plenty of water at idle and full throttle. I'll test the heat coming from the engine plate. Cheers
