"I have a 1990 150 hp gt j150stlesb that has the six carbs on it. At the beginning of the year I bought the rebuild kits for them and cleaned the carbs, replaced gaskets, etc and reset the floats to about level, I also removed the VRO and mix my oil and gas at 50:1. The motor runs well but at extended idle or trolling will load up and miss on a cylinder or two but once up on plane it seems to clear up. At start up it seems to smoke a good bit and creates a slick on the water. If I reset the floats up just a hair would that correct any of these problems or should I be looking elsewhere. Thanks John"

"John I have very same motor in a very good state of tune and that is just it nature, none of the older big carbed Johnsons liked to idle long. I personally set my floats a so they shut a little early. If it helps is up in the air?! If I need to idle or slow RPM for long I "Blip" motor ocassionally to "clear her' throat"??and trim motor down."
