I'm looking at a 1998 hond

I'm looking at a 1998 honda 90 horse outboard. The owner says it has about 1300-1400 hrs on it. He says a lodge owned it before him. He has just put a new head on it because the old one was cracked. he claims that there was little or no corrosion in it when he changed it. How much is this thing worth? Or should
I stay away from it?
by the way i'm in alaska so this has been in salt water.

"Nada fixes the price between 1800-2000 bucks. I personally wouldn't pay that much for a 10 year old 4 stroke 90 horse, even if it is a Honda.

You can still buy a 2 stroke Merc for under 6K "brand new".

Salt does take a toll on any motor unless it is very diligently cared for.

If the lower unit does not look "welded" together with crud/buildup/corrosion and they can provide proof that the head is new (along with whatever else was done) I would expect it to sell for somewhere in the 1000-1500 dollar range.

But really, if the owner has just sunk a bunch of money into it to get it working again, why sell it????? I'm always skeptical about "perfect" motors..."
