If my fluid is old or to low w

If my fluid is old or to low with this cause my elecric shift not to work in the transit?I have no neutral or reverse.Or Maybe bad selonoids or clutch dog?Only Have Forward gear now and i do have power to the switch up front.Any Suggestions on Where to Start?Thanks
 
I am having a similar issue.

I am having a similar issue. We just fixed the trim and tilt because we had to manually lower the motor. All that really needed was to take the hydraulic assembly apart and clean it and when we put it back together and back on it was working great but now the reverse isnt working. We just filled the fluid so that shouldnt be the problem. My husband thinks that when everything was reassembled the drive shaft was turned and may not be sitting at the right angle. Does anyone have any suggestions? I just received the manual today but can not find the section that discusses this issue. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Thank you in advance.

I forgot to put on there in case it is needed I think the model number is 115899c it is a 1978 outboard...
