Hi, need to repair my water pump on a 1991 90HP model ve90tlei, cant figure out how to disconnect the shifter please help.

Find the shift shaft on the motor.--It goes accross below the bottom carburetor.------Find the hitch pin on that shaft and remove it.----Now push that shift shaft to the port side and rotate it.----Shift rod should now be disconnected.

Racer, so on that model year there's no bolt that goes through the shift rod? I just tried to take the LU off a 91 115 hp, and thought the head of the bolt was sheared off.
