shifter question how to find yr model???

hey guys I'm back with a question for the money pit. needeing some nylon bushings in the shifter the yr of motor is a 1968 mercury 50hp there is no tellling what yr shifter the prior owner by now think is some kind of fred sandford of boating.But anyway is there a way to find out what yr to look up parts I've found some numbers but to me they look like cast numbers not part ones.any help greatly appreciated .......Hey Noel and Kim long time no see.
 
I really should make myself alot clearer after reading my post you of course responded the way you should have .I was talking about the actual shifter where you drive and sit to give throttle hit forward and reverse.I guess you would call it throttle control lever maybe anywho thats what I'm talking about .Bythe way hows the weather in merry ol Ireland?
 
Photo0394.jpgsfift cam.jpgThis is what you should see when you open it up.E is the detent roller and the thin metal piece behind it is the spring that kimcrwbrt1 is talking about.They can be a PIA to get back together times.That roller likes to take flying lessons now and again

Thanks alot Noel and Kim had it apart and the print from crowleys marine was perfect just like the one He has.will order on monday.wet and cold not my kind of weather you need some North Carolina heat the Flat heads are starting to feed more getting warmerGetAttachment.jpg
