I have looked everywhere online and everywhere says they are no longer avalible... so no what do i do I don't want to replace the whole shift assembly like the internet site say to. its number 18 in the pic... please help...

Shifting on to neutral and kil

Shifting on to neutral and killing the engine is a shift cable problem. It sounds like the switch is doing it`s job but the stiff cable is keeping it in a closed position.

"I agree the cable is more suspect.

If switch not readily available, I would pull the switch out, clean it up, and try to see if it could be salvaged. It is just a microswitch so if nothing is actually broken it could possibly be resurrected and messed with until it works. It is worth the time to see.
You could also try a boat salvage yard."

John; by this do you mean that the only way you could shift out of gear is by shutting off the engine with the key? Or do you mean that when you shift out of gear it shuts itself off? If the latter, the interrupt switch is doing its job.

When you tested the switch, was it still closed with the roller in the V notch in the shift arm? It should be open circuit with the roller in the V notch.

"John;
Good to hear you are up and running.
Is your old switch repairable and salvagable? If so, it would make a handy spare.
These switches normally run for many years without issue. If you have one that is good now, I would get some boating done and not worry much about it.

"John, I looked at the WW Grai

"John, I looked at the WW Grainger online catalog and found one that is similar: 6X685; Z15GW2-B7-K; list $9.14. See another posting on this subject a few days ago - I believe someone has ordered a couple. Maybe he will let us know if it is a good substitute? JW in Dixie"
