"My lower unit is leaking around the shift shaft
but only when it is installed on the motor.
The tube that the shaft goes thu is offset, from the hole in the casing that the lower unit bolts too, is this normal?"
 
I assume that you're speak

I assume that you're speaking of the shift rod that leads from the lower unit up to the shift linkage that exists at some point near the forward lower portion of the powerhead?

And the brass bushing in the top forward portion of the lower unit is offset?

Or perhaps the shift rod does not align perfectly with the tube that the rod goes thru leading up to the shift linkage?

I'm somewhat confused and need a better explanation.
