Hi. I just put a new drive shaft seal and a new lower shift shaft o-ring in my 25 hp johnson. Before doing this, everything shifted perfectly. Now, when i take off it makes a jolting clunk. I watched the shift lever and when it makes this sound, it pops out of forward and then back in. I adjusted the shaft rods in as tight as i could and still does the same. It got worse and worse to the point i had to hold the shifter down and idle back. Took the gear case apart and the clutch dog looked ok yet after the abuse it just went thru. Is there a certain way to adjust that shift rod? Do you start with the bottom 1 first?
