"To solve a problem with the boat controls, boat goes backwards in forward position and forward in reverse. The lower unit has been replaced, it’s a different color all together. I’m thinking the lower unit is an left hand rotation, if there was ever one made! If I knew The position of the shift shaft in forward, I could divide and concur. Lower unit or controls. Thanks for any help."

"Thank for the reply, The shift rod is down and I turn the fly wheel c/w and prop turns c/w (forward). Just a note, I got the boat as is, So the problem is, in the past some one changed lower unit not knowing there could be a difference in the year. I might add the “old” control box was in the boat. The push pull action is the same as the control box they replaced it with. So what I’ll need to do is replace the control box with the same year as the lower unit or replace the lower unit with the same year of the motor. Does this sound as a solution? Thanks a ton, Bruce"

"u may be able to re-rig the shift,it seems i have had to do that--20 yrs ago....basically..u have the wrong lower unit for your yr shifting mechanism..."
