shift rod spool

Honda 10h.p. B100 The spool with the o-ring, on the shift shaft rod, I believe is stuck on the shift rod shoulden,t it be mounted securely in place in the round hole on the lower end and the rod slide through it. When you mount the lower end on does the shift rod get connected from up top? Clyde

The shift rod should not rotate in the lower unit. You have to unscrew the gearshift rod joint from in front of the powerhead. You will have to remove the rectifier and possibly a couple of other things to get to it.

Count the number of turns that it takes to get it off. When you put it back on, but sure you put it on with the same number of turns to assure that the shift shaft is aligned correctly.
