"changed impeller on motor,every thing o.k.Had to drop lower unit to line up and noticed the washer from shift rod missing, but it was on when we put it back in.Checked on ground and in boat for washer.Thought it might be lodged in shift rod shaft tunnel.Probed with a magnet and wire but no luck. What does this washer do and what would be the best way to check to see if it still in there.Would this have any effect on the performance of the motor.
