"As this is my first post, I'll start by thanking the people who run and contribute to this site to help people like me with their questions.

My question: Is the curve on the lower shift rod on my standard gearcase Evinrude 1967 V4 60HP wrong as shown here against a 300mm / 1 foot scale?

I can't find a detailed diagram but the 1967 parts catalog suggests there's a more definite couple of curves near the top (right side in the pictures) end.

My rod looks like it's had a few attempts at straightening it or changing its shape.

I'm trying to solve some gearshift problems. If this rod is too long because it's missing the right curve that might be part of the problem.

Thanks for any advice."

Your shifting problems are more likely due to poor adjustment / loose linkages than bends in that shaft.Make sure that the shift coupler is properly assembled with the screws fitting in the notches.

I think I found the problem. The shifter cradle for the dog clutch has worn. It allows about 5mm ( a bit under 1/4") more movement before it contacts the flange on the clutch than the new cradle I got today.
