"I have a 350 chevy with a VP dp 290 outdrive. I went out for a spin today and decided to drift alittle when i re- started to go up river it started great but when I shifted to forward the shifter didnt engage and i was at throttle only. i brought it back to reverse and the boat just reved up. The shifter felt like something snapped because Before i had a little tightness from neutral to gear. So I threw anchor fearing the breakdown. One last attempt , I started again ,moved shifter to throttle position only reved engine brought it back to neutral moved it to forward gear and it was engaged. Off I WENT.... My question is what the heck happened. Gear shifter worked great back to marina...What would cause this. I cant see it having anything to do with the outdrive selector. It felt like it was in the Throttle selector position. Could it be when I first pulled the shifter back to Neutral to shut off and drift that it popped into throttle. It needs to be pushed out for Throttle. Iam lost...Any help I take greatly."
