"Ok im replacing the shift cab

"Ok im replacing the shift cable and all the other stuff, bellows, gimble bearing, trim senders. While im in there should i just say the heck with it and do the shift shafts and the u joints? The boat was sticking in reverse and hard to shift. Its a 1978 898 305. I figure that old i should replace the other stuff but how hard is it?"

"The stiff shifting was likely caused by the lower shift cable being old and stiff.
As Guy says, there is no need to change U joints if they are tight and not rusty.
