"repalaced my impeller on my 1977 mercury 9.8, 110 now it cools and pees but reverse is now neutral and neutral is drive. WHAT DID I DO? what do I do to fix this. I feel like such a idiot!"
 
You got the shifter rod in the

You got the shifter rod in the wrong orientation when you put the LU back on.

Try putting both the motor and LU in neutral--I'm having good luck doing them that way.

"hey thanks Jeff, got it right finally, but do you or anyone else know what fitting should be between the pump houseing and the copper water pipe? there was a piece of pvc in mine and it was way bigger then the copper pipe, so I rigged up some fuel line so it all fit tight, or tighter, still alittle lose but not as bad. m sure this aint right cause I am getting water through the pee hole, and the motor is staying cool but I would think I would have a harder stream of water comming out of pee hole. any thoughts?"

There's no seal between that copper pipe and the plastic piece--it just "feels" loose as you assemble the unit. The fit gets much tighter when the pipe is further in, but you can't tell that since the LU is all the way on.
