Shift linkage realignment

2004 Johnson 115 HP 2 cycle J115PLSCR not shifting into forward after water pump replacement. Only neutral and reverse. Suggestions please, thanks.

Adding to my original post; it was difficult getting the linkage reconnected and I'm not sure if the lower unit was in forward, neutral, or reverse at the time.

Yes, I think the shift rod was turned. I'll follow your lead and pull the lower unit to check the height. Thanks for your help.

Check on where off set is too.-----When shift rod is set you move shift lever or move rod up and down to line up for the pin.----Foward gear is usually used because of room at the bottom carburetor.

Not sure how this shift shaft seal got loose, but how and where do I get it back?
