I notice this last weekend tha

I notice this last weekend that when I shift from neutral to forward there has been a little hesitation a couple of times I had to push the handle about a inch before it would engage previously I would just barely need to move it about a 1/4 inch. This is on my volvo penta 8.1 dpx 375 I just want to see if that is normal ware or if I should have it looked at before it gets worse Thanks Joe

If you suspect your shift cabl

If you suspect your shift cable is starting to wear I'd do something sooner than later so you're not left idling in the water with no way navigate your boat.

You should be able to pull the shift/throttle controller and inspect the connections on both to see how they are. Do the same where they attach to the carb or injection system and outdrive. I'd reccomend replacing both even if only one seems to be failing for piece of mind to know that both are brand new. They shouldn't be that expensive.

It's an easy DIY if you're the type. Just make sure you have the correct length of cables and know how to do the final adjustments once you've got the new cables run.

I will check it out I was thin

I will check it out I was thinking that it was something electrical on this boat because it has shifted so smoothly almost instantly before but it makes sense that the cable is getting hung up. Thanks Joe

"I am having similar problems

"I am having similar problems but more sever. At times my shifting seem fine, but after get going pulling tubes and skiers. The shifting gets messed up and I get stuck in reverse until I trim the motor up all the way then it will come out of reverse and we can get underway. Can someone tell me where to adjust the shifting cables and the proper procedure for that? I have a SX outdrive I believe with a 5.0 GXi on a 205 Glasstron"
