Shift interrupter stalling motor whenever shifting into gear??

I was in a bad mood after struggling with this project. I know there must be 10 million mercs out there and have been around forever. The comparison to my last boat with volvo penta diesel is stark. While admittedly not a direct comparison, it was far less finicky on adjustments, outdrive maintenance vastly less complicated and raw water cooling circuit system much more applicable to salt water application. It was a much more expensive setup needless to say. I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings and in hindsight I should have kept my findings and thoughts to myself. I also should have expected to get flamed......cheers

You really need to consider what the previous owner(s) (lack of) maintenance produced....you will find many are ignorant of what should be done and the frequency of those activities....Its not perfect but Carl was very innovative at making things that last and worked very well...

Carburetor filthy, bad fuel pump, cooling passages salt clogged irretrievably on exhaust/intake manifold, thermostat housing, engine water circulating pump, bad bilge pump switch, lift pump electricals corroded beyond salvage, running lights toast, fuel sender and gauge bad, water in shaft bellows, bad lower unit. All fixed and running great right on the numbers at 35kts.1970s sea otter 19' built Bristol RI. Worthy learning experience......hilarious, cool, neat boat. Cosmetics next. Blue boat my 44' Dolphin twin d9 volvos shafts. Cheers

you didn't hurt anyone's feelings. the alpha is great for what it is simple, light, and inexpensive to maintain. Perfect match for a 135 hp set up. Yes it seems like you are unwinding some BS the previous owner did. One issue a lot of folks get cheapo aftermarket impellers, shift cables, bellows. The OEM merc stuff on my boat lasted 18 years (shift cable is still original). Get yourself the factory manuals for drive and engine they are excellent. If you have basic mechanical ability plus the manual you will have no issue.
