So I know the interrupt shouldn’t engage out of the water nor going into gear my issue is that it is and is sticking causing the motor to die. I have installed new cables on both sides new lower unit new cable/interrupt bracket and still the same issue arises what could cause this?

Tell us what was your adjustment procedure for the install? What procedure did you follow? Be specific!!!

Upper cable installed on control box fed back matched measurement of old cable installed

Lower cable installed lower unit down had wife spin prop counter clockwise while I push cable inward to ingauge forward gear twisted barrel to measure 6” center barrel to center eye marked cable had wife hold prop in gear while I pulled out on cable had 7/16” play also checked shifting to insure smooth cable movement while disconnected neutral and reverse went smooth removed upper cable and shift assist installed lower cable with the 6” measurement put control box forward gear lined up cable backed barrel away from eye 4 turns installed everything tested all gears engauged yet shift interrupt moves trying to go into and out of gear and sticks in position as to push button on interrupt in

Most sounds ok.
One thing, When installing control cable its, Put control in full forward, wide ope throttle position. Not just in forward.

Did you install new short cable? If so how far did you tighten into gimbal housing? Should be about 1-2 threads exposed.

Question, when shift interupt is engaged when you think its not suposed to. Is this when just shifting the mechanism or while engine is running?
If it is just when shifting and engine not running, try spinning prop by hand and see if interrupter goes back to center. It will always engage when not running as the clutch dog and gear teeth may not mesh which it does when running.

If you have already done all of this maybe a call to discuss would be helpful? Send me your info and time to call.

It is happening both running and not running while running if I stay at idle rpm it will kill the motor if I give it rpms it will stay running just rough and no power also have tried spinning the prop manual while not running no change the lower cable was installed by a Mercruiser certified shop due to lower cable snapping and myself not being able to get it routed correctly in the tight spot so i am assuming it was installed correctly as they are the shop that did the motor swap to this motor in the first place I can say the shift lever/ control box doesn’t feel smooth it does with just the upper cable installed and the lower cable feels extremely smooth too but with both connected it does not

send me your number,

your response doesnt make sense, the interupter shuts off the ignition so its not a rough running condition. It would be a no run (stall) or no start condition

Also, no need to keep asking questions here when each respinse contains additional information missing from the original post. What will happen is, you will get 10 questions just to get the needed info and that will require 10 answers by you then most will get lost and forget what was asked and answered.

Easier to have one phone call and get it all at once!

disconnect the shift cable at the plate. grease thump and index fingers. try shifting.
should shift easily. If not you damaged the cable during the install

Some EFIs put into base timing when activated. Old units shorted ignition off.

This is why I am suggesting a phone call. He doesnt understand that dribbles of information will ruin the thread as it will get clogged up with unneeded questions and responses.

He needs to list EVERYTHING ABOUT THE BOAT AND ENGINE. EVERYTHING.

Every detail is needed.
