I have gotten the old cables unattached from the control box, but all the replacement cables I see look different than these. These had a bare wire that you tightened Allen nuts down on. All the ones I find for sale say they are for omc post-1979, but they have a rod with a hole through it to connect to control box.

Yeah, those would be the old type cables.... a plastic sleeve goes onto that bare wire, through a barrel type threaded sleeve, one allen nut tightens down to cramp the wire, another allen nut tightens in the other side to lock the first nut. The inner wire must be aligned so that the tip of it is exactly at the outside edge of the plastic sleeve..... A PITA!

If you possibly can... return those cables and get the factory assembled ones... nothing to screw up!

Do it the old way------Find a shop and talk to a gray haired mechanic.-----Say need help with an early " powershift II " control box.

If you replace the wire cables be sure and heat the tip of the wire up to glow red. That softens the wire so the set screws will hold!
