hi...had my boat hauled out Sat. 2004 32' regal 6.2mpi inboards/walter vdrives. when these guys lifted the boat they didn't follow the sling marks and lifted my 12500lb boat out with the straps across my prop shafts infront of the struts. i yelled and they put it back in water...i took for a short drive and it seemed fine(no noise or vibrations...speed norm.) shafts didnt look bent and turn smooth by hand...but today i went into vdrive compartment ...(oil spray and water everywhere) shaft seal? if so is it easy to fix? can it reseal itself? gonna try to get them to putit back ikn water to see if it leaks again on tuesday. please advise

tell them they are responsible

tell them they are responsible for the damage and have them replace the seals and check the shafts for damage. I just went through the same thing with my marina damaging my props.

"The seals on the v drive are not hard to change. The seals where the shaft goes thru the hull is a different matter.
I assume your boat in now on the trailer and if so, Fill the bilge/v drive compartment with water and see if it leaks out. Look for damage to the hull where the shaft/s go through the hull and damage in the v drive compartment"

"That just sux. Hate hearing about dunderheads damaging people's boats. Take pictures, Anthony. Hold those boys responsible. Look for vibration at wide open throttle."

upon further inspection...oil

upon further inspection...oil seems to be leaking from vdrive where prop shaft enters vdrv. had local mechanic dialed the shafts and the starbd was whipped .007" infront of struts where yoyo lifted it and .015" at the tip...he says shatf should be removed and straighted...are those numbers within accetable range??..serval diff. mechanics and marina's as well as THE prop and shaft guy in my area say it was unlikely damaged by lift straps...i hit bottom in july and damaged rudders and minor damage to props. shafts and drives were checked then and was told they were good..drove for two months and no shutter or vibrations or leaks. Is it possible that the seals were damaged than and didnt leak oil until now? it looks easy to remove vdrive and prop shaft but how difficult to put back. im getting estmates for 10hrs labor +/-. if i attempt myself how bad can i srew up...money is tight all around...

"The seals were probably not damaged by the grounding but most likely the shaft was. The seals dont like more than .002" runout on the shaft. After grounding, it would take a short while for the whipping shaft to finish pounding out the seals until they leak. You may not be able to determine if yoyo or grounding did the damage or a combination of both.
If you are not a mechanic, dont try to do the work yourself."
