Setting Timing 2000 Volvo Penta 5.7

Looking to finally put this to rest.
Can the timing be set using the Ronda scan tool?
If so can someone share Details on that?
I've also heard of a shunt tool or write off the distributor that you ground and then utilize a timing light.
Appreciate any insight you can provide.

should have the MEFI-3 ECU. Routine timing adjustments should not be necessary as there are no <physical> wear parts that require recurring maintenance. The ECU will adjust ignition timing based on the operating conditions it measures.

With the ECU control, there is no need for the timing shunt connector.

To check the timing, you can use a RINDA scan tool to lock the timing by going into service mode. If a scan tool is not available, enter service mode by jumping the A & B termnials on the diagnostic connector. Then use a timing light in the normal manner.

Many of the VP engines from that vintage dont have the degreed timing tab. You can use a timing tape or make the needed marks using tools available and the arc length formula...just make sure the appropriate units are used. the base timing value should be on the spec sticker (decal) on the engine....(8 deg BTDC is very common for that vintage)
