Setting float height 1988 Merc 60hp

I have stripped, cleaned and rebuilt my carbs as per the manual on my 1988 Merc 60hp 2 stroke and I have the factory measurements for the float height (11/16" - 17.46mm) but I'm a bit lost on where exactly to take the measurement from. When the carb is inverted the float is angled down towards the edge of the bowl and the picture in the manual is grainy and doesn't show if the measurement is being taken from the highest or lowest point of the float face.

I have spent most of the evening online looking for info but can't seem to get anywhere so if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

The bottom of the float should be 11/16 " above the metal parting line.

Jeff

PS: After the carb is reassembled, shake it near your ear and listen for the float rattling. If it does not, drop the bowl and sand away the parting line flash on the float. If not, it will jam and the carb will flood.

Thanks Jeff, they were both a bit out which explains a lot so adjusted back to factory now. The issue you explained with the float sticking is exactly what happened to mine out on the water so while they were apart I gave them a good blasting in the ultrasonic cleaner and made adjustments to ensure the float can move freely. I've currently got the fuel pump in kit form on my workbench and waiting patiently for parts to arrive in the mail. Good time to service the entire fuel system so treating her to new fuel hoses and connectors for good measure then on to the link and sync which is a first for me so fingers crossed!
