"I just purchased a older boat

"I just purchased a older boat with an 2004 Johnson 50HP four stroke, EFI motor. What kind of manual should I order for general maintainance like oil and filter change, spark plugs, lower leg, general cleaning for my engine, changing impeller, service changing prop etc. (Owners,Service, Repair, all or ?) Does a service manual show diagrams of cowling, lower leg removal, etc. Also how is the speed and service of ordering a manual from this site ?

"Phil, a service manual is great and very specific to your motor, but it is designed to be used by a "tech" - so it assumes that you already know "x" about motors in general.

A tune-up/repair manual usually contains tips etc from the author that may help if you are unfamiliar, but it tries to cover a number of motors and may not always give you the full detail that you would like. They are however about half the price of a service manual.

I use both - a good service manual and tune-up book together may cost about 100 bucks, but I feel that's a whole lot cheaper than replacing an engine and over the 30 years of so that you may own it, works out to what, less than 5 bucks a year....

Andrew (moderator here) can probably hook you up for sure with a tune-up manual and it helps support this site as well...."

The Seloc "tune-up repair" manual for Johnson/Evinrude 4 stroke only goes up to 2001, so won't work for you."
