I am curious if anybody has had any experiences with this product.
The reason being that at our shop in the last week we have had 3- Alfa 1 gen 11 SEI legs all with around
40 hrs. on them with shattered pinion gears . An coincidence - faulty run or the norm for the product ?
Thanks
Bob

Sounds like purchasing @ SEI found a "better price" on pinion gears, from a source that didn't get the heat treat and/ or metallurgy right.

Mine had poor grease in the u-joints which then seized up quite tight after a few hours run time and the drive was super grumbly - sounded like a bad gimbal.

As far as "shattered" gears. What does that mean? Brittle fracture?

Is the water level down in your local lakes? A brittle fracture one might describe as a "shatter", sounds more likely impact related.

If you can post good pics we might be able to shed some light on the cause of failure. As much bad luck as I had (0 for 1) , I would have a hard time saying it's material related.

What engine?.
with a 3.0 or V6. The gears have a pretty light load in the upper- it's all speed and not much torque. It's the prop shaft and lower gears that are carrying the high torque load.
A 5.7 can put a fair torque on the upper. Double the 3.0's

But high speed gears are often the ones that break when an impact occurs.

Thanks for the input guys. I,ll go with the purchasing theory , or perhaps a run with faulty shimming on the vertical shaft.
Moot point now anyway . Ill just rebuild them , Was just curious about the product,s reputation as 3 legs with the same failure - low hours - and no sighs of impact have to make one wonder.
Thanks again
Bob
