Seating the prop shaft oil seals on a 77 500

000_0025.jpg000_0024.jpgI am ready to seat the oil seals on the prop shaft but I am not sure how deep to set them into my bearing carrier. The double lipped seal (smaller of the two) looks like it would bottom out about 12 Hundredths too deep? Also would like to know what side goes in (toward the gears), A or B. Pictured. I think it is the side with the coil spring that is visible? Thanks

Most people install them as to keep the water out (vs. oil in). That means spring side facing inward. Tap them in far as they will go for, if there's a groove in the prop shaft, the lip may not ride in it. Get it?

Gotcha. That sounds smart and I can even do that. It said to coat the outside of the seals with Type A Loctite and use Perfect Seal for the Bearing Carrier. I picked up Loctite (blue) and no one has heard of perfect seal. What would be a good substitute for the perfect seal?
Thanks, Mike
