Seahorse 4hp 4r75a issues

I have been working on a 4 horsepower Johnson seahorse and I'm having trouble with an intermittent grinding noise that seems to be catching and releasing from low to high throttle. I am wondering if someone can help me narrow down the issue I have also attached a photograph of a crack in my coil and also my other coil has a larger crack in it. I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with the noise I am hearing and would appreciate all opinions on this matter. Thank you
 
New coils are not expensive.------I would replace both.-------Have you checked gear oil ?------Replaced waterpump ?--------Checked compression ?-------I can not hear the grinding noise so hard to say what that is !
 
As of yet i have only tuned carb. I bought new points kit and carb kit bit have not replaced them. Have not checked gear oil or compression. The noise sounds like it is coming from the flywheel area and is intermittent.
 
Can't diagnose the noise from here, but those coils will let you down someday.
Back to the noise, I'm thinking possible bad crankshaft roller bearing. But that doesn't go with the intermittent symptom.
