"I have a leak somewhere around the oil cooler on my 145A. I havent tackled it yet so I thought I would ask the experts before I dig in. What are likely problems, fittings, etc? I do know the drain petcock is not leaking. It feels like it could be coming from the fitting on the cooler as if it is porus. The engine does not run hot but it will leak enough water in the bilge for the pump to kick on.Any suggestions greatly appreciated."

"If your exhaust manifold is clogged wth mud/scale, there will be quire a bit of back pressure in pipe 10 that may force it out of the cooler and start leaking. Make sure the exhaust manifold is not clogged, then bend the pipe 10 a bit more (about 1") towards the cooler and afterward slide it into the cooler bottom cover. After you bend the pipe, the gasket 12 will be completely inside the housing in the bottom cover and the pipe will put a good pressure on it.

"El Pescador,

That makes sense and I will check. I didnt tell the entire story. We suffered damage at our lake in Indiana from remnants of hurricane Ike. My houseboat was one of 83 that broke from the mooring on the 15th and was tossed around in 85mph winds and 5 foot + swells. It came to rest on the rocks a half mile from the marina and the problem of a sea water leak happened after this mishap.I had written it off as a coincidence but it is very concievable that debri got in the exhaust. I had it pulled for the winter so it is on the stands where I can acess it very easy. Fortunately I had no holes in the hull, only broken windows and railing destroyed. Here is a link with a few pics from one of our marinas.

Thanks for the help.
