Screeching in 2007 Mercruiser 4.3MPI

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has some experience on a screeching/rattling noise from 4.3. Mpi. It only makes slight noise at higher RPM when cruising. When under power or Idle there is no noise. I have checked Engine oil and Sterndrive oil tank is full. That is about the limit of my experience as I am a boating novice!!! The hours were confirmed at 94 only and the condition externally is as new. I don't really want to use it until I can confirm what it is, so any help would be appreciated.

so have someone else drive while you watch the motor, and see what belt is making the noise.

Maybe the alternator, watch it close see if the alternator is freezing up.

Any black soot in the engine bay maybe behind the motor in the bilge that would be a different problem

By the way you running it with the drive all the way up ? If yes stop it.
 
You know what, i have the same thing in mine except its a 7.4 MPI. I nearly went insane thinking it was a belt screech, but I think it is a plugged flame arestor. I cleaned the flame arrestor by soaking it in mineral spirits and then blowing it out inside out. Try that. I also heard the engine referred to as a whistling gopher so I think this just may be a symptom of these engines.
