Does the Scott-Mcculloch Tach use a sending unit for magneto ignition applications? If not, where is signal received from? Also there are five post terminals on the back of the tach. Blk, Blue, Pink, Orange, and Brown. Other than blk, what does each represent?

If you are still looking - let me know - I have a schematic the 60 HP Flying Scott - I assume it is similar

You better make sure that wiring diagram is for similiar yrs. The 58-59 motors used genefators the 1960 and newer motors had alternators.with a distributer.

Yes, I am aware of both generator/alternator models that have charging systems. This boat is '66 Sportcraft that has the Scott Tachometer on the dash. It falls in the years when alternators were more popular. Not sure of the original engine sold with the boat when new, but a mongrel '64 75hp lower unit with a 60hp powerhead (magneto) with no charging capabilities (no stator/generator) was with the boat when sold by a boat dealership in the early eighties. I now use a '60 skylark big twinn 40hp (upper/lower unit all rebuilt with parts from Marine engine NOS) that does have a generator charging system. Much lighter outboard that can reach almost (28mph vrs 32mph) the same top speed of the V4 60hp, using much less fuel as well.
