"Okey I am still not having much luck with my OMC cobra. I replaced the water pump impeller because I was getting no water flow. The water pump is pumping its behind off now but still no water to the engine. I removed the hose going to the power steering cooler and I found this brass retainer lodged in it http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i152/blaineelstrott/IMG00020.jpg" I removed this hooked everything back up and STILL NO WATER FLOW...So I know I have some sort of blockage in the outdrive itself. I see the water supply hose but not sure how to remove it...will I be removing the outdrive for this job? Your help is MUCH appreciated. Its 80 degrees here in Louisiana and my boat is begging to hit the water

I will check that out when I get home. I know the screw is there but I havent checked to see if its tight or not. With that nut removed would this cause water not to flow through the outdrive?
Thanks!

"One more thing, from inside the boat where the water intake hose comes through the transom, I disconnected it and ran water in it using a garden hose with the water pump removed from the outdrive...I get absolutly no water coming out of the water pump inlet."

I beleive the hose is in tact

I beleive the hose is in tact since I do not see any water shooting out from behind the OD

Alright looks like I got it.

Alright looks like I got it. I pulled the outdrive and found the water intake hose clogged solid with this slimey white goo. Cleaned it out real well and now I get water flow up to the engine. Going to put the outdrive on tommorow (hopefully if I can get a gasket) and take it out. Thanks for all your help.

"This discussion hits home. Just today a customer brought in a boat with a V6 Cobra, I work on primarily Vintage boatrs so this is considered new to me, They had accidentally removed the screw from the Port "water plug" and the retaining hardware fell inside. I was able to remove it throught the outside using high pressure from the inside. But, I cannot find a replacement and I am wondering, does the outdrive have to be removed to reinstall this plug?"

Yes...most people have to remove the drive to get the plate anyway because it usually just falls inside in a water passage. You pull the drive and you can usually reach it into the passage even on a piece of wire until you get the screw started.
