salt water vs fresh water

just looking for some input/opinions on purchasing a salt water boat with crusader 454's (closed cooling) and bringing it to fresh water. I am not new to boating and do understand this is generally considered a big "no-no." I am looking for input related strictly to crusader engines and not the boat in general.

thanks in advance

The other way around is the problem. You might have to replace the risers and elbows (assuming the manifolds are fresh water cooled), but then you're good for 10 to 15 years.

I pity those who go the other way!

The Crusader marinization package is adequate. Like all products, each has it's quirks. The 454's (model 350 in the old days) are based on the Mark IV blocks. The 'older ones' typically have the 'log style' manifolds. The last a long time, especially when in the closed cooling loop. Typically, the risers are NOT in the closed side; they can be readily added to that side if desired. The elbows are heavier than most (Pascoe is a fan of their gasket area) but usually suffer 'clogging' in similar timeframes to other designs in the salt. The rather unique item they use is the motor mount - it is a crusader exclusive. this means you'll pay a premium if you have to replace them (2500-3000 hours).
