runs then stops 1956 3 hp

Hello I just bought a 1956 jw-12 3 hp outboard engine. The engine starts up fine but when I let it run it dies after a few mins, but then I can start it right back up after a few min, but end up with the same problem. I added a fuel mixture of 24:1. Any ideas? Thanks

When ever you buy a used outboard you must install a new impeller !!-------Sounds to me it might be overheating.---------------Then again it might be the filter in the fuel tank outlet is plugged and it needs to be cleaned !!

Did You open the gas tank vent?
Check the float in the carborator and the general cleanliness of the carb.Also check the magnito coils for cracks. These motors were notorious for rotten coils from the factory.
If they havent been changed, they will need to.

You might check on the oil mix ratio, I think it might need 16/1 mix. But I'm not totally sure.
