runs but no power

i have a 1988 merc 135hp black max searay edition. it starts and runs perfect during idle and during no load but when i hit the gas under load it seems to have no power. the rpm's only go up a couple hundred and top speed is about 5mph. Please help i'm dying to get out.

Sounds complicated. Can't answer a one liner. Need all kinds of info from you to help in determining your problem. We could sit here second guessing all day to no avail.

what info would you need?

Check the compression. If it is good then check for carbon plugged exhaust ports. Can't build RPM if the exhaust can't get out.
