Running out of gas

Hello. I have a 2022 Yamaha 60 hp high thrust with less than 500 hours. What’s happening is the engine runs out of gas sputters and stops. All I have to do is go back and squeeze the ball which is not flat but it’s not firm so I squeeze it about 10 times until it feels firm . I turn the key and the engine fires right back up. I drive it about a mile same thing happens over and over again. Is it my fuel pump or a defective squeeze ball or what any idea guys thank you in advance.

`Step #1 is to test run with another tank and hose.----Could be an air leak.---Could be the lift pump.----The bulb does NOTHING once the VST is full.

Sounds like the mechanical lift pump is not keeping the VST filled with gasoline. You using the primer bulb is doing what the lift pump is supposed to be doing.

Have someone pump the primer bulb continuously while you run the boat and motor at power for a period of time. If the problem goes away that is indicative of the lift pump failing.

It is not good for the electric fuel pump to be starved of gasoline. Can lead to an early death.

Thanks. this is my first fuel injected motor. Only 500 hours on the engine. Is that lift pump on the side of the engine or in the tank?
