"Hi Jim,
I just finished a 600 mile run and on each leg, one engine went down. I got so good at entering harbors and slips that I realized anyone can get good at maneuvering with one engine. I didn't use a bucket or a dingy, just common sense."

"Just trial and error.

Just remember you have something there before going in reverse or you will quickly find that you have 2 engines down.

I've only had to do it once and actually it wasn't too bad for me. As Gary said, use common sense. 270 Deg to port = 90 deg to starboard"

I ran a little over 200 miles on the Mississippi on one engine. The root of my problem was raw water pumps eroded by sand in the water over time. I prevented rotation of the prop and shaft with a pipe wrench. My thought was to keep the v drive and transmission from turning. I don't know if it was necessary but it made me feel better.

"Supposedly--per the manual--a Velvet Drive is not damaged by freewheeling. That said, I'd seriously consider locking the shaft in place if I had to drag that side for hundreds of miles.
