Running Issue - 1984 Edson 90 hp V4 Johnson

I am having some issues with my boat that I am looking for some information on.

Boat - 1984 Edson - 90hp Johnson

Issue:
- Starts and runs fine at idle
- When you throttle up to full speed, it runs fine for 30-60 seconds, then
just stops (see video clip located here -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_idotWQ9Y2A&feature=youtu.be

- After it dies out if you immediately try to re-start, it just clicks like
a dead battery or possibly bad solenoid.

Things I checked so far:
- fuel tank breather is working fine
- fuel filter is clean
- the fuel pump ball is full when it dies so I don't think it is starving
out
- battery is good

Do you have any suggestions of what this issue might be? What parts I
could try replacing to resolve

Any help is appreciated.

Hopefully you are running with water supplied to the pump to keep from damaging it.------Also it is a mistake to run at high RPM in nuetral !----Take it to the lake and see if a timing light hooked up to the plugs will tell if it is ignition related or fuel.-------Inspect starter too, as they are easily damaged by excessive cranking.

Hi Racerone, thanks for the response. I do have muffs on it in the video and am just using the choke to pick up the idle until it fails. I will try the timing light to attempt to determine a fuel issue or not but as for the ignition, how would that cause it to stall out? I figured that would probably be a separate issue but is that an incorrect assumption?

Agreed, what you are doing is bad practice (running it that fast on muffs) Nevertheless, that thing quit because it seized up. I can see the tell tale squirting, so have to assume it is getting some water. But is it getting ENOUGH water? Didn't sound like it. Whatever the cause, it won't survive very long if it keeps happening---if it isn't already too late. My suggestion is launch the boat and see if it is ok in the water.

Yup, I'll go along with that. It's seizing up, and that's why the starter won't turn it over. I see the tell tale, it looks like the flow is getting weaker as the motor speeds up. BTW, I've had trouble running some larger motors on muffs, even at idle they try to overheat. Just for kicks, did you try the overheat horn, and make sure its working?

Running a high horsepower engine (yours) on a flushette, the water must be turned on full force.

The fuel primer bulb does not stay completely full when the engine is running... the fuel drops down to the halfway point when the bulb is in a horizontal position.

The warning horn should beep for one second when you turn the key on.... Does it? If not, find out why!

Engine's gone. Seizing at high temp, after cooling, able to start. Do compression test....you will see low cyls. Geez, what abuse of an otherwise good engine.
