Running FWC 318 in drydock

When I'm running my freshw

When I'm running my freshwater cooled 318 in dry dock I use a garden hose hooked to the raw water pump intake. My question is do I need to worry about starting the engine before I turn the hose on? Or is there NO danger of flooding a cylender with water when the engine is Fresh water cooled?
