I started to install my new rudder and port after trashing mine last fall. I bought a new rudder and port the rudder port is a little different than the one broken one I removed. When I put the rudder in place I have about 1" of rudder shaft sticking above the packing nut the the square to mount the steering rod. I don't remember how it looked I was pretty pissed at myself when it happened. My question is do I have to fill in the gap between steering rod and the packing nut? I'm wonder if over time the rudder would start dropping down. Any ideas?

If you have twins, see what's on the other post and match it on the new side."
