Rpm's and lean condition

Generally speaking would air being sucked into the block at a gasket which caused a lean condition increase rpm's.I thought I had experienced a rpm drop after finding such a leak and fixing it when troubleshooting my 20hp last year.Never experienced this on any motor before so I am not sure how or if this relates? Not enough of a engine guy to answer this myself.

If a gasket were leaking... spraying nay kind of liquid around that gasket would result in a change of rpms.

So if let's say my motor ran at 5800 rpm due to extra airbefore the gasket was repaired should it lets say drop down to 5500 just by fixing that.?

Thanks. I thought I was mistaken since I had put a tiny tach on my motor last year during the trouble shooting process and thought my full throttle rpms dropped but was second guessing myself. I am hopeful no long term damage was done due to the lean condition. I may have ran a whole summer and then some like that not knowing my fuel pump gasket was allowing air to enter. Time will tell. Motor was new to me and it did sound alittle off but I went from a 9.9 to this 20hp.
