"I just bought a 16 foot Grumman with a 1991 75hp Mariner, I always had small motors and I am new to starting a big motor, what is the starting procedure for this motor.

What are the max rpms that this motor, I am using a 13 by 19 in prop, and if my tack is correct I am running at 4900 rpms flat out and doing about 43 mph.

How do I work the electric choke, must you hold it in for a few seconds and must I pump up the ball?

I am very impressed with this message board and wish to thank those who work hard so a novice like myself can ask questions.

I have read almost every post and learned so much from each.

Where should the trim tab be set, I hope thats what it is, its that adjustable gismo above the prop,

I will continue to visit this site daily and read every post, and again thanks the MarineEngine.com for this service."

"Jim, 4900RPM is too low. The correct range should be at least 5200 - 5500RPM. Now your speed is excellent, maybe too good. Use a GPS for true speed, if you haven't. As for your tach's accuracy, only way to validate it's accuracy is to use a known good tach to compare."

"Thanks for the help, I took her out and this time I pumped the ball hard and pushed the key in while starting and it helped, but it was 28 degrees so I guess any motor will start hard when its that cold.

I put a new trim tab above the propeller and she does not pull to the right anymore.

I have play in the stearing and am afraid that I could loose my stearing, I want to buy a new stearing wheel and housing, is this something I can install?. a new stearing cable has been put on by previous owner, the play is not in the cable but in the stearing wheel gear box.
Thanks."
