rpm guage problem 2007 90 hp

i have 07 90 hp mercury on 07 carolina skiff seachaser. the rpm guage reads 5500 rpm at idle and stays pegged anywhere past idle. any suggestions. maybe new guage. thanks for any help

Look on the back of the gauge and you should see a place to set the gauge for 6P input. Twist this setting back and forth several times to clear any trash that may have gotten in the contacts. When done set it exactly on 6P. You might luck out.
