1992 200hp carb. Trying to troubleshoot why RPM quit but can' find what color wires come from motor. Do they go thru shifter? Tried different gage no luck.thanks R

Depends on your boat setup. If standard control boat then yes wires com off ignition switch or plug in back of box. If switch is in dash then may have plug under dash? You are looking for a purple wire (switched 12V), gray wire (actual tack lead) black wire (ground), blue wire (light for tach) not necessary for tach function.
Voltage on gray lead should be 9 volts + or - 1 volt at 1000 RPM just above idle.

Thanks , have the switch 12 volts. Will check for 9 volts tomorrow. Does the gray wire go all the way back to ignition on motor for trouble shooting purposes? Thanks R

It goes to the regulator/rectifier at the engine yes. Located under the flywheel & power pack. It's water cooled because it handles 35 amps at WOT. You check the voltage on the gray lead with engine running at around 1000 RPMs. High idle will do since you don't have a tach at the moment. Just a simple voltmeter will do.

Is the battery charging when the engine is running? Do you have battery boltage at the tach with the engine running? Go to maxrules for wiring diagrams the charging systems are pretty standard. Just trace the grey wire from the rectifier for the tach signal. The tach requires all three ground, battery and signal.

Look on the back of the tach for a screw driver slot which has numbers around it. Rotate that a couple of times and then put it back where you started. See what happens ??
