I have twin BF40AX XRT's went out this weekend and 4 hours into trolling at 3000 rpm's one of my engines decided to act funny on me. RPM's dropped to 2500. I tried brining it back up got it to 3k for a couple of minutes then it drops to 2k starts to vibrate alot and couldn't hold a steady rpm. I then tried to upthrottle got a good respone at 4500 rpm's and thats how I got home. Got to the harbors entrance dropped throttle and the engine died. docked with one engine. Tried to start the engine again but would only start with the fast idle lever in upmost postion, tried to lower it to regular idle speed to no avail it kept dying. Washed the boat up and drove home (apporx 2 hours later) at home I looked at it, everything seems to be in place all hoses connected properly, no vaccuum leaks, I tried to hook up my syncronizer and all three carbs are in sync. Idle is at 1000k.
It will hold idle now for a couple minutes then wants to die. but when i rev it at home it still cant hold a 3k and will "bog".
I just did a carb rebuild and sync on both engines a couple of months ago and no problems till now. I have fresh gas new fuel filter/water seperators new spark plugs.
I'm stuck. Could it be a bad coil or wires or even a bad CDI unit?
Another question, what is the proper way to sync your carbs? I've read on here Hondadude recommends you to pich off the hoses between carbs but my manual doesnt state that. Also I think i read where they say to start with #3 carb and adjust the pilot screw 3 1/2 turns out from seat but my manual says 2 1/8 turns from seat.
any help at this point would be greatly appriciated.
thanks in advance
