Would appreciate if any one knows if there is a product to coat the inside of cast risers and 90 degree elbows. I have thought about having them [NEW] being hot dipped galvanised or using cold gal [ 93% Zinc in dry film ] but am concerned about clogging. The motor is fresh water cooled and boat is on hard stand. Look forward some input. Also what is the best solution to help remove the scale on the old ones. Thank again Jon.

"Other than stainless steel&#4

"Other than stainless steel($$$), risers(elbows) are consumable items. Plan on replacing them every 4-5 years if you run in salt water.
I would not coat them with anything. Anything you coat the inside with will add another layer between the hot exhaust gasses and the flow of water that is trying to cool the gasses. You may make them last longer, but at the expense of something else. Plus I can't think of kind of coating that would stand up to that kind of abuse for any worth while amount of time. As the coating system would start to fail, it would result in localized hot spots, which would cause even more rapid degredation of the base material."

"Thank You. You have raised go

"Thank You. You have raised good reasons to accept the current metal construction. Another question. I have been told it is worth the effort to remove and inspect and clean about every two years. Using new gaskers upon re assembly. I am wanting to have preventative measures in place. Such as, every year the starter motor treated with Tectyl. I would appreciate any other suggestions on preventative measures. I have a service manual, but they do not tell the real life events experinced by a boat motor and leg.Jon"

"There is about 2 million thin

"There is about 2 million things that can go wrong, most without warning and at the worst possible timing. Like the first day of holidays, or the weekend you invite the whole gang to the lake for some fun in the sun.

You can never second guess all the stuf that could happen, nor can you be prepared for any eventuality. Just do the best you can with regular maintenance and that is about as good as it gets.

Always carry a spare prop with nut/washer and prop wrench kit. Always have some bsic tools on board, as well as a quart of engine oil and a quart of drive lube oil.

"I keep a toolbox full of hand tools and goodies; spare fuses out the yingyang, crimping tool and a variety of connectors, several lengths of wire, wire ties, spare coil and coil wire, battery terminal connector, test light, sandpaper, WD-40, bilge plug, spare prop kit, etc. Overkill; but I feel better.

"Thank You. Will take on board all of your advice. I agree the most important part of boating is MAINTENANCE and preparing for the simple 'what if'.I appreciate your help. You can not read experience from a book, only the word. Jon."

"Guy; sounds like you run a mo

"Guy; sounds like you run a mobile repair shop on water! Good plan though.

If you are travelling long distances from home port, and there is not much civilization, it is best to be as prepared as you can. Boats can wreck your day in a hurry.

I only had to use the box once last year when my trim quit in the middle of the lake. Old 20 amp glass fuse came apart from age; didn't have one. Used 2 quick wire clips and a spare ATC bayonet 20 amp fuse & holder to get off the lake.

"You've GOT to have a Gasp

"You've GOT to have a Gasper Kit. Have hose clamps, zip ties, a few hose unions and tape.

I encountered a vibrating cable assembly that rubbed a hold in my starboard turbo cooling hose - 145 miles from home. I confidently got into my Gasper Kit and clamped/cut/spliced/tied off and was back in the game!"
