I have a 1964 Evinrude 9.5 outboard that the water tube came out when I pulled the pump out with the lower unit and I need to know how to reinsert the water tube to make sure it's in the right place is there any way to do that without taking the whole powerhead apart I really could use some help from somebody thank you

Look up the exhaust housing with a flash light and find the water tube grommet. That's where the tube goes. Put some grease on the end of the tube and insert it in that grommet. Then install the gear case.

Thank you Bobby I will try that that'll be the next thing I do and also Evinrude man thank you I will definitely flush water through to make sure it's clear. I really appreciate your help

It's difficult to get that water tube back where it belongs but it can be done.

The alternative is to: Remove the lower unit... Remove the starboard casing... remove the engine assembly from the port casing... Remove the powerhead...Now the tube can be installed properly with its grommet and retainer. Hellava job!

Thank you for your reply I'm hoping I can get it in without taking too much apart but if I have to I will I'll take apart what I need to do to get it in properly thank you very much again

i just pulled the powerhead off a newer 30hp, then pulled the lower unit because i thought it would be simpler to put water tube in from the bottom. if you wanted, you can actually run the motor without the lower unit on it, by connecting a hose to the water tube, and just slightly turning on the spigot. check how far you need to turn the water on, before connecting to the motor. a bright light is the key to getting the tube where it belongs.
